Naughty Nuris Warung Ubud

For the past fifteen years Naughty Nuri’s Warung Ubud has been luring people with it’s legendary barbecue pork ribs and wicked martinis. Finally Nuri’s has made it to the beach, with the opening of a second restaurant on Jalan Batubelig. It’s easy to find just look for the sidewalk barbecue and a lively crowd.

Eva is our vibrant hostess and tells us that she and husband Bruno would regularly make the drive up to Naughty Nuri’s in Ubud and became good friends with the owners Nuri and Brian. Eventually they asked if they could open a branch down in Seminyak, and the rest, as they say is history. While much of the same menu is in place, Bruno, a French chef has added some ‘Batubelig twists.” However die-hard Nuri’s fans will be pleased to know that the famous barbecue pork ribs are just the same. As Eva says, “We wouldn’t dare change such an infamous recipe.” The Martinis too are faithful to Nuri’s originals and every bit as lethal.

The laid back atmosphere, breezy terrace and big chunky wooden tables are reminiscent of Ubud, but the Batubelig branch definitely has its own personality. Eva, an interior designer has obviously had a lot of fun creating a comfortable space that is rich with quirky details and imbued with irreverent naughtiness. Ornamental pigs turn up on the tables, the bar and the walls, while a flying pig dangles over the entrance. The lamps she created out of aluminum buckets and glass beads were torched – to give them a barbecued look. Fulfilling a secret fantasy to be a graffiti artist she then spray painted her kids names across the base of the bar. The graffiti theme continues in the bathroom which has a blackboard for people to scribble the kind of naughty things that you often find on the back of toilet doors. Another blackboard next to the bar lists famous Martini drinkers; James Bond, Ernest Hemmingway, Billy Wilder, below which is NNW’s Hall of Infamy – if you drink four Martinis and are still able to hold a piece of chalk, you can add your own name.

Behind the bar is a sign ‘Drink Responsibly, We Want You Back (hic).’ Rather apt in view of the self proclaimed “Brutal Martinis,” a glass of straight up, shaken not stirred pure naughtiness with five shots of Absolut, or gin served with an olive or a twist. Margaritas are also popular, but I am quickly seduced by the Naked Shrek a refreshing, dark green grassy looking drink dense with fresh mint, Bacardi, gin and lots of lemon. A generous plate of Nachos accompanies our cocktails, crispy fried tortilla chips and homemade refried beans, laden with tangy salsa, cheese and big juicy jalapenos.

As our Ribs sizzle on the barbecue, we try the French influenced Bebek Goreng. This innovative and tasty dish features Duck confit prepared and baked French style, then fried Bali style, the result is crispy salty skin and flavorful succulent flesh. The Ribs are huge, tender and meaty, basted in Naughty Nuri’s much loved, highly sought after and slightly sweet secret sauce (staff have to sign a confidentiality agreement.) Other grilled delights include The 200 day grain fed Black Angus Steak, Tuna Steak and Gourmet Sausages. Indonesian dishes and burgers are also offered, and the homemade sambal makes a spicy and delicious addition to everything. We finish with a seriously good Cheesecake that is light, fluffy and gelatin free, drizzled with crunchy passion fruit pulp. Cheeky tee shirts and other items are for sale and gift certificates are available.

I read on the menu that this is a “Funky street side haven especially for the naughty but nice people in Bali.” You don’t need to be naughty to enjoy Nuri’s but come hungry and don’t forget to bring your sense of humor.

Water sports aren't just limited to those you can do on the beach, butinclude those you can do on human-made slides and pools, just as longas you're willing to get wet

If you look at the top corner of this page, you'll probably notice theword "adventure which is coincidentally the name of this section. Now,I know Waterbom might not qualify as an adventure unless you'reextremely hydrophobic and the sight of a waterslide sends you runningaway like a screaming Japanese crowd in a "Godzilla flick. No, it's notjumping out of a plane, and no, it's not climbing a Himalayan mountainduring a blizzard, but there are more than a few leisurely thrills tobe encountered if you're willing to get wet.

So what is Waterbom? If you guessed something that explodes underwater,not only are you wrong, but you must be very new to the island. Infact, you've probably picked up this issue of hellobali on the planeprior to landing in Bali for the first time in at least sixteen years.

Waterbom is Bali's only real water park for you newcomers. And if you have to ask what a real water park is, read on.

Waterbom sits on a luscious piece of tropical land in the middle ofJalan Kartika, much like a bright green square smack in the centre ofan urban jungle. At first glance, you'll probably perceive a rainforestwith a bunch of water slides protruding through a dense arborouscanopy, but the jungle has many secrets, and to reveal these secrets,you have to walk to the ticket counter and purchase a pass to go inside.

Once inside the park, you'll notice more than a few attractions thatyou could see yourself getting into. At first it seems like there aretoo many things to do, like a predatory fish fooled by the sheer numberof its prey, it can be overwhelming. All you need to do is relax, takea deep breath and take it one step at a time. Reading the rest of thisarticle should help.

If you are around eight years of age, then you should probably ask yourparents if you're a good enough swimmer to not wear a life jacket, ifnot, the park offers free floatation vests. Then you should check outthe Bombastic, a fully aquatic playground that gets dunked by a giantbucket of water every so often. If your parents smoke, you're in luck,ditch them, because there's no smoking allowed in the kids area. Sincethis magazine isn't a colouring book and didn't come with free crayons,you're probably older, but don't feel left out. Just read on.

If you're slightly older, let's say middle to high school, this parkmight just be made for you. There's a ton of slides for you to choosefrom and your youthful bodies won't wear out from climbing the stepsassociated with waterslides. Most important is the fact that there is abuffet of people of the opposite sex in your age group wearing skimpyswim wear. That's a guarantee at Waterbom, but you're responsible forthe courage required to spark up a conversation.

If you're in this magazine's target demographic, you're also in luck.Not only are there all those waterslides to give you a safe thrill, buta plethora of other distractions. First and foremost is the booze.There's a poolside bar at the heart of this family-friendly water parkwith a glut of beverages and cocktails to choose from. Pools are forgetting tanked in and I can't think of anything more satisfying than analcohol induced waddle in the blazing heat of the Bali day. If you'reup for it, and you can motivate enough people there's even a volleyballnet in the same pool.

What if I'm already hungover? Excellent question. Waterbom has theanswer. The lazy river at Waterbom drifts at the same pace as the mindof one who had way too many drinks the night before. All you have to dois sit in a tube and let the river do all the work. Sunglasses arestrongly recommended as is some sort of sun protection. It'ssurprisingly easy to pass out on a giant floating donut.

But what if you don't like water? No problem, there's a food court withan amazing array of consumables. Everything from bubble tea to hotdogsto pastries is served here. Then there are the retail shops, where youcan purchase a Bintang singlet... Or volcanic glass! You can also getinked up with an airbrush tattoo. Plus there's a Euro bungee spot whereyou can pretend to be in low gravity.

If you're way too extreme for any of the above, Waterbom has one moreace up its sleeve. The ride is called the Climax. Sceptical? Don't be.This ride is 19 vertical metres of savage altitude. You start on ahydraulic trap door that opens beneath your feet and the pull of theearth rockets you to a top velocity of 27 metres per second. That'smoving a hundred feet in the time it takes you to read the word"Mississippi. Not only does it make you go insanely fast, the turnwhips you around at 2.5 times the gravity of Earth. If that doesn'tpump some adrenaline in you, you're dead inside. "

面包＋泡面＋香烟＋咖啡或可乐。没人管的我很放任的让自己过得很不健康。今天早上照了镜子，吓到了，好难看。心一横，做了一个痛苦万分也是对的决定 - 搬回家跟妈妈一起住。

一个人生活久了，真的好想回家，健康状况亮红灯了。是时候回家了。要戒烟，最好的方法就是回家。妈妈不知我有抽烟，我也不会让她知道。如我回家，一定可以戒掉一面工作一面抽烟的恶习的。

开始筹备从城市里搬回小镇。　想想也很兴奋。一桌子的饭香，还有就是一睁开眼睛就早餐吃的幸福画面。好久好久没有吃早餐了。

妈妈好高兴，她说会每天煮饭给我吃，她说十年没煮饭给我吃了。她好兴奋的说我可以在家工作，要飞往巴厘岛的时候她会载我去机场，她说如不嫌她麻烦她也要跟我一起去。我说我是去工作啊，她说她会自己去玩。其实，她在担心我的安全和健康。

眼泪止不住的往下掉。家，是避风港。妈妈，是最爱我的人。

我会回家的，我要回家了，请给我一点时间筹备搬家的琐事。两个月，就两个月。东甲，等我回去吧。

The Lure of The Bukit

In ancient times, it was a dangerous place where great herds of wild banteng and water buffalo roamed free, driven south by population pressure. It was the occasional hangout of Kebo Iwa, the legendary Balinese giant and master builder, and it served as a hunting ground for pheasant, wild boar and deer, favoured by the rajas of Denpasar and Mengwi. In fact, Bali's Bukit Peninsula was considered to be so mysterious, foreboding and inhospitable that it became a place of banishment for criminals, undesirables, debtors and political agitators.

The Balinese had little interest in this 140-square-kilometre, lemon-shaped, limestone tableland that dangles like a pendant upon a chain at the southernmost extremity of the island. A curious, windswept geographic feature, presenting dizzying cliffs, caves and timeworn sea temples, it stands out in sharp contrast to the lush, alluvial plains of southern Bali. Bukit is the Indonesian word for hill and, until recently, this dry-land outcrop was home solely to seaweed farmers, fisherman and cassava farmers, with the only other industry being the mining of blocks of building stone, from inland karst quarries.

The dramatic coastline of the Bukit, however, is pounded by Bali's most challenging surf and, in the early '70s, those in search of the perfect wave discovered some thrilling breaks. In 1975, two Australian surfers came to Bali and made a documentary film that was to become a classic. 'Balinese Surfer' portrayed how the local kids had broken through the centuries-old taboos and beliefs that the sea was the home of demons and evil spirits and taken to the waves on surfboards. By borrowing boards from the visiting American and Australian hippie surfers who they watched riding the breaks every day, it didn't take long for this first generation of Balinese to master the sport. It often used to take them half a day from Kuta to reach, for example, Uluwatu, the spot where they thought the waves might be breaking.

Bali has subsequently become one of the great surfing Meccas of the world. Hang around surfers and you will hear mention of Uluwatu, Padang, Impossibles, Bingin, Dreamland, Balangan, Nyang-Nyang and Green Ball. All of these world-class barrelling reefbreaks are located on The Bukit, with Uluwatu and its famous entry cave being the Island's first famous break, featuring the most consistent waves. Diehard surfers made their homes on the peninsula, while homestays and thatched beach warungs were built to accommodate and nourish visiting surfers.

Yet there was little infrastructure; no telephone lines, no electricity, almost no surface water and no streams. Roads were limited, many of the gorgeous beaches were inaccessible, and the only tourist attraction was Pura Luhur, the 11th century temple at Uluwatu.

Today, a number of the more affluent members of the surfing fraternity have chosen to build beautiful villas on the Bukit. From this elevation 200 metres above sea level there is the most amazing view of some of Bali's most famous beaches laid out like a map. Early each morning, a quick glance from the bedroom window will ascertain the best waves and destination of the day!

Indeed, these days the Bukit presents a very different image. From once being an inhospitable place of banishment, it has reinvented itself—since the Millennium— to become a target for development by the hospitality industry. It is now the most upmarket destination on the Island. The recipient of a great deal of media attention, the area now boasts some of Bali's most opulent destination villas, glamorous private estates, and internationally-branded boutique hotels. For example, there are just two Bulgari hotels (Jl. Goa Lempeh, T: 0361 847 1000) in the world; one is located in Milan and the other on the Bukit. Other prestigious brands include Raffles, Banyan Tree, Alila and Banyan's affiliated brand of Angsana, combining to make the peninsula the neighbourhood of choice for sophisticated and discerning travellers and residents.

The area is characterised by wide open spaces and clear blue skies, with breathtaking, panoramic views spanning the Indian Ocean and Bali's dazzling coastline. The turquoise waters are the playground of migrating whales, and the dry, rocky landscape is dotted with wild flowers, stunted bush, manioc, prickly pear cactus, beans, scarlet flowering flamboyants and fascinating kapok trees. This region is much drier than the rest of the island, cooled by coastal hill breezes; even in the rainy season, the idyllic, hidden, white sandy coves are reliable sun-traps. When the waves are calm and the tide is full, turtles and sea cows can be seen swimming in the crystal waters close to the shore. The clear horizon reflects the purity of the natural surroundings, and the expansive picture of aquamarine waters capped with white surf is a reminder that the ocean will never be built upon, so this spellbinding seascape is guaranteed to be there forever!

Looking north, from the highest most central point of the Bukit, the narrow isthmus that links the peninsula with the rest of the island is clearly visible, with the view extending past the crescent-shaped Jimbaran Bay and the airport to Bali's sunset coast, incorporating the settlements of Kuta, Seminyak and Canggu, before reaching inland to the highlands of Bedugul. On the eastern side of the isthmus, the tip of Tanjung Benoa, Benoa Harbour and Sanur are also easily perceptible. On a clear day, the awesome vista takes in Bali's chain of volcanoes from the mighty Mt Agung in the east and Mt Batur in the northeast, to Mt Pohen, Mt Sangkiang and Mt Batukaru, extending across the highlands of West Bali National Park towards the distant volcanoes of East Java.

Sadly, however, one of the loveliest beach destinations, formerly known as 'Dreamland' and now renamed 'New Kuta Beach' by someone lacking in soul, is currently being developed and its beauty destroyed. Upon completion the development will contain at least five luxury hotels, and around 2,000 houses comprising townhouses, condominiums and a retirement centre. There will also be an international school, an international hospital, a shopping mall, botanical gardens, and entertainment attractions including a water park similar to Waterbom in Tuban. Bali didn't really need another golf course, especially in a porous limestone area where water is scarce, but the 18-hole, championship, New Kuta Golf Course at Pecatu commands splendid views from its signature hole, no. 15. The course covers 85 hectares above the beach, and was designed by Ronald Fream.

The Beaches on the Bukit include Balangan, an idyllic white sand beach fringed by cliffs and clear water. Relatively quiet, this beach is still spared from the annoyance of hawkers. There are a few cafes near the tree line, and the water here is superb for surfing and safe for swimming, as the waves break over the reef 200 metres from the shore. The beach at Bingin is pockmarked with rock and reef, forming intriguing tide pools at low tide; Impossibles Beach is another great setting for a seaside walk at low tide, while Padang-Padang is an archetypically enchanting beach nestled into a pocket of lava-rocks, with an entrance to the beach though a cave crevice.

Finally, at the end of the day, you may wish to visit Pura Luhur Uluwatu. This ancient temple is balanced on the very edge of a narrow rocky cape, and is particularly sacred to fishermen, who come here to pray to the sea goddess, Dewi Laut. Legend has it that the temple is actually a ship turned to stone and for sure, the grey volcanic rock, glowing with the radiant colours of the setting sun, will leave you with a lasting and haunting memory of spiritual Bali.

8.00am 享用酒店早餐，办理登出手续，然后直接前往圣泉寺参观，圣泉寺的温泉池拥有多达十多个出水口，虽然经历了千年但仍然清澈无比。接着前往参观巴厘咖啡制造过程(旅客可选择不去;)，然后就往金塔马尼火山口出发。

12.00pm 到达火山口，旅客将能伴随着美丽的风景享用丰富的自助餐。这位于巴厘中部山区的金塔马尼气候凉爽，是个著名的避暑胜地。在这里将能看见位于金塔马尼东边的活火山-巴都火山。巴都活火山享有巴厘富士山之美称，海拔1717公尺，火山口还不时冒出了浓烟，加上伴随着火山旁的巴都湖泊，绝对是不能错过的天然美景。之后前往Tegalalang Rice Paddy Field 2) Tegalalang Village

3.30pm 到达乌布村，酒店入住登记，自由行动。乌布村在登巴萨以北28公里处，是巴厘绘画重镇、知名的艺术村。同时它也是一个成熟的旅游区，各种档次的商店、饭店、餐厅在这里都能找到，游客可以从这里买些当地风格的蜡染服装、银饰等带回去。建议可以于此地来个按摩或水疗，这里的价钱非常合理，基本上从50000印尼盾起。

第四天乌步艺术村/ 机场（早餐）

8.00am 享用酒店早餐，办理酒店登出手续。

9.30am 前往木雕村，Mas村和Celuk村。它们是印尼手工艺术品的盛产地，木雕尤其是中的佼佼者。例如木雕村就是巴厘岛木雕之乡，这里集中着巴厘岛最优秀的雕刻师。我们将可以看到雕刻师现场展示手艺，他们同时还出售部分作品。展示的工艺品主题以**神话人物及传统居民的生活风貌为主，还有较大型的家俱如全套桌椅等，形形色色。不过如果你只想购买一些便宜的小雕饰物，最好还是到其他风景区的小店购买比较便宜，不过价格是和木材的材质和雕工的细腻度有关的。之后将会接着前往象窟。象窟位于巴厘岛的南部，是一个天然洞穴。洞穴外有用山体岩石雕刻的石像，除此之外在洞穴内还能看到栩栩如生的神像。

1.00pm 在当地餐馆享用美味午餐

2.30pm 旅客将在苏卡瓦提自由购物。苏卡瓦提是一处购物的好地点，这里的东西可以说是价廉物美。还没购物的旅客们不妨就在此地为自己做最后的添购吧。

3.30pm 前往机场

5.00pm 出境，飞往新加坡/马来西亚

时间： 9.11pm， 25-12-2008 ，圣诞节，雨天。

今天是圣诞节，我一个人孤零零的，没人陪。很可怜噢。人在马来西亚，脑袋里早就飞到巴厘岛了。好想在那边过圣诞。但是，天可没从我愿。坏蛋！

一年了，总觉得该写些什么来纪念我的宝贝公司。但总不知该从何开始写起。总觉得有点怪怪的。但在寂寞难耐的今天，怪也要写了。不好意思啊！

万事起头难，刚刚开始成立我的宝贝公司时，也是千辛万苦的。有血有泪，坎坷难堪。很难想像吧？

可是，现在它一岁了。好开心，好感动！要哭了。。。但在2-12-2008它生日当天哭过了。现在没眼泪了，哭不出！

讲真的，很庆幸它没能夭折，很健康但不快乐的活了一年。好险！家人朋友一直酸我给人骗，现在证明你们看走眼了吧？不要看不起我哦！我不好欺负的！

本着以人为本的精神，打着 - "Give me your budget, tailor made a perfect holiday for you in Bali" 的不怕吃亏吃苦的原则，我挨到了今天。有赚钱的哦，债务差不多还光光了。

下篇，我将分享一个马来西亚的24岁小女生-我，如何在他乡设立旅行社，如何购下她的第一辆车，如何购得经营权，如何融入当地人的淳朴生活的故事。

偷偷告诉你, 其中一个原因是很多Balinese讲我很美，所以为了往后的日子有人天天赞我漂亮，才决定辛苦一点在那片陌生的国土落地生根的。
