The craftsmen photography book of Ubud, Bali

As I said, when I travel I like to see what a country is really about, and not just what any tourist would see.

I love to find hidden places, backrooms, meet locals. Nice Tour took me around to see all of this. We got lost on the small mountain roads around Ubud for 2 days, which turned out, even though I’m a complete beach boy, to be my favourite ones. We encountered on the way men slaughtering a pig, stopped for a little while to have a chat and discover a bit of how they were doing that. We then arrived in areas where amazing handicraft could be seen by the roadside. Budi, Angie and I started walking around to discover a bit what this was all about and how such quality items were manufactured. Any of the vendors we talked to took us around to show us the work of their amazingly skilled workers. Some would even export their work, as wooden giraffes, as far as Africa to furnish their souvenir shops. All were amazing encounters and reflected, I think, more of what this amazing Balinese culture is about.
